Flashback Friday #3 feat. VC & T-Mac

Who knows what could have happened if these guys stayed in Toronto?  They have so much talent between the two of them.  Some say it would have never worked out.  Others think they could have been unstoppable.  I guess we'll never know...

New Singles: Chromeo and Young Money Entertainment

Here's a couple of singles that were officially released yesterday:

Chromeo - Night By Night
This is Chromeo's new single.  It's nice to hear some original material from them after doing a cover of the Eagles' classic, "I Can't Tell You Why".  I'm a big fan of these guys and I can't wait for them to release another album.  This is exactly the kind of stuff I've come to expect from them.

Young Money Entertainment (Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga, Jae Millz & Lloyd) - Bed Rock
Is this really Young Money's follow up to "Every Girl"?  I guess this song is alright and people will eat it up just because Lil' Wayne and Drake are on the track, but this is nowhere near as good as their previous single.

Also here's a couple of videos from The Sound of Arrows for their new song "Into the Clouds".  The visual style of their music videos along with their airy dream-pop sound always make me feel like I'm in some kind of fantasyland.

New Music: Tesla Boy

Tesla Boy is a relatively new band from Moscow, Russia.  Despite being blogged about for the past several months now, I just discovered these guys last week. Their sound is reminiscent of eighties new wave with a modern electropop twist.  I love eighties music and electropop so that's a solid combination for me.  Plus how could I not like these guys when their logo matches my blog so perfectly?  Their EP officially came out earlier this month so pick it up if you can.  It's the perfect soundtrack for the drive home after a long night.

Here is the link to my favourite song on the EP:

You can listen to the rest of the songs below:

Flashback Fridays #2 - feat. MYMP

Every Friday, I take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on some nostalgic material...

I used to listen to a lot of Filipino music while I was in highschool.  I don't keep up with the current music scene in the Philippines anymore,  but I still enjoy the old tracks that I have in my MP3 player.  Below is the video of one of my favourites.  It's called "A Little Bit" by MYMP.  Whenever I want to feel more relaxed, this song can always do the trick.  If you play the video and listen to the track, I think you'll agree with me that there's something soothing about Juris Fernadez's voice.  If you're not Filipino, don't worry, the song is in English.

P.S. I know I missed last Friday.  My bad.

A Few Songs From My Week

I've never been a fan of 50 Cent and I've never understood why he had such a big following.  I always thought he was way overrated.  Recently he's been pretty under the radar, overshadowed by the likes of Lil' Wayne, Drake, Jay-Z, and Kid Cudi.  He released a new single last week though, and to my surprise, I actually liked it a lot.  I thought it would be one of those songs I listen to once just so I know what people are talking about, but for some reason I can't stop playing it.  I thought it was just an average track when I first heard it but it has really grown on me.  I listen to it in the car.  I listen to it on the bus.  I listen to it while walking around the SFU halls.  And I'm still listening to it right now as I'm writing this.  Maybe it has something to do with my secret man crush on Ne-Yo (I guess it's not so secret anymore :s), but I just can't get this song out of my head.  Now don't get me wrong, I don't think 50 Cent can surpass the current competition (Jay-Z and Kid Cudi's new albums are pretty much untouchable right now), but this is the kind of track that might get him some radio play again.

If you haven't heard it yet, check it out below.  I've had it on repeat for so long, I'll probably be sick of it soon....

50 Cent ft. Ne-Yo - Baby By Me (Remix)

Here's some other rap and r&b tracks that I've been listening to during my recent travels on the 143:

(Click to listen and download)

Alicia Keys - Doesn't Mean Anything
1st single from her upcoming album due out in November.  I've been looking forward to some new Alicia Keys songs after listening to "Empire State Of Mind" a billion times.

Amerie ft. Trey Songz - Pretty Brown Eyes
A decent R&B track.  I love the beat on this one.  I'm liking Trey Songz a lot lately too.  His latest album ended up being better than I thought it would be.

Keri Hilson ft. Marques Houston - Slow Dance (Remix)
Liked the original.  Like the remix too.  Haven't found the CDQ version yet so this will have to do.  ("Slow Dance" is also my Featured Video at the moment.  You can find it on the left sidebar.)

Kid Cudi - Enter Galactic (Love Connection Part 1)
My current fave out of my many faves from his recently released album, "Man On The Moon".

Kid Sister ft. Phonat & Pitbull - Free Control Ocho (The Hood Internet Mashup)
I've been listening to quite a few of The Hood Internet's mashups recently.  This one would've been better off without Pitbull's part.  Its got a dance feel to it and its a solid track overall.

Leona Lewis - Happy
Her best song since "Better In Time" in my opinion.

Lloyd ft. Lil' Wayne - Pusha
Lloyd's new single.  I kind of like the version with Juelz Santana better, but I guess if you wanna have a hit single, it doesn't hurt to put Wayne on the track.

Matt and Kim - Daylight (Troublemaker Remix ft. De La Soul)
You might've heard the original from the Bacardi commercial.  Well DJ Troublemaker gives the song some hip-hop flavour in this remix made specifically for NBA Live 10.

Playaz Circle ft. Bobby Valentino - Can't Remember
Nothing great but after seeing the video a couple times, it's stuck in my head.

Wale - Ice And Rain
Wale has really come a long way.  This is one of his best tracks by far.  I still remember in the summer of '07, I decided to play his mixtape, "100 Miles & Running", while driving somewhere with a couple of my friends.  They kept saying "turn this crap off. This guy is garbage".  Now the same guys are telling me, "have you heard Wale? He's pretty good eh?"  smh

Anyways, that's it for now.  Check out the playlists on the left sidebar if rap and r&b aren't your thing.

Complex Best of 2000s

I know I haven't updated in a while.  A combination of work, school and my own laziness have kept me from blogging but I'm gonna try to post something at least once a week.

Anyway, Complex is doing a feature called "Best of 2000s" where they rank the top 100 albums, shoes, movies, shirts etc. from the past decade.  I don't agree with all of their selections but it's fun looking back on stuff that you might've seen/bought/heard during the 2000s.  There's something special about finding out that a shoe you bought 5 years ago is considered one of the best shoes that have come out in the last 10 years.  Check it out HERE.

Flashback Fridays #1

Every Friday, I take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on some nostalgic material...

Today's edition features Bran Van 3000 and their 2001 summer hit, "Astounded".  I loved this song when it first came out.  It blended the genres of soul and electronic music so well.  Plus, the music video was pretty memorable...

LeGarrette Blount Punches Byron Hout After Losing the Season Opener

The 2009-2010 college football season kicked off today and it started with a bang.  There were a couple of good games but what really made the news was Oregon's star running back, LeGarrette Blount, sucker-punching Boise State's Byron Hout after losing their season opener.  Blount is considered by some as one of the top RBs in this class so this was a bad move for him.  He will probably be suspended for awhile, maybe even the whole season, so he has really hurt his chances of making an NFL roster next season.

Watch the video of the incident below (I have a feeling this is going to be taken down so be quick on this one)

The Hundreds Magazine 1st Issue!

My favourite brand, The Hundreds,  released the first issue of their magazine this week.  What makes it even better is that it features one of my favourite people, Olivia Munn

Only The Hundreds flagship stores and select retailers worldwide will sell the new mag, so I hope Livestock gets them in. If not, I'll be sure to order myself a copy when they become available at The Hundreds' online store next week.

See more of The Hundreds and Olivia Munn at their respective blogs HERE and HERE.

My Laptop Broke Again :(

So updates are gonna come in a little slow. I plan to get a new one this week though.

Also, just wanted to mention that Chris Brown is retarded. There's no way he can't remember what happened. SMH

Even this guy knows what happened and he wasn't even there.

The full interview with Larry King will be on CNN tomorrow at 9pm ET/6pm PT. It should be interesting....
